Well I've only been writing about him for 1.5 years....I suppose it's time for Dr.Hottie's voice to be heard on the blog! He had a staycation from work last week- I loved seeing him more, and as he caught up on sleep he slowly came back to life. Medical zombie be gone! Enjoy Dr.Hottie's staycation recap! PS- I told him to go easy at the homebrew store, but I can't win 'em all...
They have to allow even surgery residents time away from work these days, so I had my second week of vacation last week. My chief resident also scheduled me to be off the weekend before my scheduled week of vacation, so I had an awesome 9 days off in a row! I was able to get some much needed sleep throughout the week, but we also had plenty of time for fun activities during my staycation. We kicked the first weekend off by exploring new trails on the bonneville shoreline trail south of salt lake. It was fun to see a different section.
Headed to the local home-brew store on monday to get supplies for my planned brews for the week. The first pic is from the hefeweizen I brewed on tuesday. The third pic is the beautiful porter I brewed on thursday (might bottle half of it as a vanilla porter!?!).
Rebecca and I also went for a nice sunset walk on the trails behind the avenues. Some inversion makes for a beautiful colored sunset!
Unbeknownst to us thursday was national mountain day. Must of had some sort of premonition because we spontaneously decided to bag a new peak that day because the weather was crazy warm (mid 60's!). We did a fairly steep hike up Mt. Wire (2500 ft of elevation gain in ~2 miles). Found a nice cairn at the top.
Since christmas is coming up (even though I will be working the day of), we made spiced christmas vodkas (I love this swedish tradition!). The left is our take on a traditional aquavit, middle is cucumber, and right is pepper...should be great.
Final brewing/fermenting damage. The two beers, appfelwein, and three 1gal experimental wines with the vodkas in front. Should be enough to get us through the early spring!
Rebecca had a swim meet in park city all Saturday morning that I went and watched. We rented a hotel for the night so that we could enjoy the downtown area. We got to see santa and his reindeer come down the mountain on the city lift on sat night. You can see it in the pic below. The little kids in the crowd went crazy when they saw the lights peek over the mountaintop!
After santa arrived in park city, we celebrated with some potent potables at High West distillery. Love their whiskey!
Topped the weekend off with a trip to round valley for a run (was supposed to be x-country skiing but the snow conditions were slightly less than ideal as you can see).
Those are the main highlights from the week! We also got all of our Christmas gifts done and mailed off, and I got caught up on my administrative duties from work. So all in all a very relaxing but busy vacation. Now I will be starting night float trauma/consults for the next 8 weeks. Thankful I had this break to get me energized to start a long rotation. Thanks for allowing me to guest blog Rebecca!
